D.A.R.E.
The CWLU developed D.A.R.E, “The Direct Action Rights in Employment”, to help organize women against employment discrimination. It “fought for equal job treatment and wages for women”. It also “sponsored a Legal Clinic that provided legal services and advice for women”. “D.A.R.E's most successful activity was its steadfast support of the Chicago City Hall janitresses. These women, who cleaned up after Chicago's most prominent politicians, made less than men for harder work. Subjected to demeaning racial and gender discrimination, they were denied fair advancement opportunities”. The city was sued and won on “behalf of the cities janitresses”.
